Railway systems and power engineering design
BACKGROUND
Our Director & Founder, Abdul Rehman Savant, CEng, MIET, is the Independent Technical Authority and Head of Digital Railway Systems and Power Engineering (E&P) at ASAVRAIL, overseeing all works on behalf of the company.
Abdul began his rail career in 2001 in Signalling, later expanding into Civils and Structural Engineering, Utilities for the DNO, and Rail E&P as an Electrical Engineer, progressing to Chartered Principal Engineer and Professional Head of Discipline for UK & Ireland. His core specialism remains Railway Electrification & Plant (E&P), with recognised expertise in Signalling Power Systems and all Trackside LV Systems.
PROJECT EXPERIENCE & TECHNICAL AUTHORITY
Abdul has delivered and overseen complex, multi-disciplinary rail projects from feasibility through to project close-out across all regions of the UK railway.
He provides:
- Design Technical Assurance and independent review of projects
- Competence, compliance, and governance oversight, including alignment with ISO 9001 standards
- Supervision and mentoring of multi-disciplinary design teams across Signalling, Civils & Structures, Telecoms, and Electrical Power
- Guidance on integration, compliance, safety, and project delivery risk mitigation
- Support for early-stage needs analysis, client requirements definition, project diagnostics, and technical workscope development
PROJECT DETAILS
The projects illustrated in the diagram represent a range of railway systems and power engineering works. Involvement has included design, survey, and project engineering, as well as installation, testing, and commissioning activities.
Abdul’s participation spans multiple levels of responsibility, including:
- Design support
- Design lead
- Works package or design management
- Independent checking and approval
- Contractors Responsible Engineer (CRE) for design
This demonstrates the breadth of his multi-disciplinary experience across Signalling, Civils & Structures, Telecoms, and Electrical Power, as well as his oversight, governance, and technical authority capabilities.
